2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Response

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a distinct game identity.

The president noted that the team is now refining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Hires

The news mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire content from the president's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to heart and reimagined the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our audience.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to persist observing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to come.

David

Title Information and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a community playtest. Initially, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch reads. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and challenges that evolve every round. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Alternatively take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your squad can secure victory? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect further news as creation progresses.
