A Minimum of 98 Palestinian Detainees Have Died in Detention Starting From October 2023, Israeli Data Shows

According to information released by Israel, no fewer than 98 detainees from Palestine have lost their lives during detention since October 2023. A human rights group located in Israel has reported that the true figure is likely significantly larger, as a result of hundreds of unaccounted for individuals from Gaza.

Lack of Accountability

“Regardless of this large quantity of deaths, over two years no one has faced arrest,” the official stated. “There have been no charges over any fatality.

“During the time these practices are being applied, every Palestinian in custody is in danger, including the physically well individuals, including the youth who have no medical issues.”

High-Profile Cases

Some deaths in custody have been high profile, such as a senior medical chief who died in confinement after a third of a year in detention.

An inmate detained alongside the deceased reported that he was led to the yard by guards just prior to his demise, clearly wounded and exposed from the hips downward. His corpse has not been returned to Gaza.

Further inmates who died in Israeli custody remain anonymous. Detention administrators and defense forces gave analysts with the figure of deaths in confinement, and limited additional information for example the facility where they died, but excluding the detainees’ identities.

Recognition Difficulties
