Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has labelled fresh reports connecting him with a move to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant at the Etihad, responded to the persistent speculation about his next move.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, has a contract running through the end of the decade, with a potential extension option.
"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is completely unfounded," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is little room for such distractions."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my focus, I have stated many times, is just about this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was connected to a role in Italy with Juventus. So I don't pay attention because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, presently placed in fourth position in the top flight, are scheduled to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a lunchtime kick-off.
Maresca's latest comments follow in the wake of he described a recent two-day spell as his most difficult since arriving at Chelsea.
Those initial words had sparked considerable talk of a potential rift between the manager and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When asked if he had since spoken with the Chelsea's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we speak about various topics. But about the post-Everton press conference, no."
The Italian did confirm he would "absolutely" remain at the club for the coming campaign and urged the fans to "continue to support the team".
In brighter news, Maresca revealed that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back ahead of schedule, possibly in contention for a fixture against Aston Villa later this month.
The apparent strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board remains as an open wound that still cause concern.
While there has been no further escalation of the matter publicly, there has equally been no resolution forthcoming, creating the disagreement unresolved.
The mood during the manager's media briefings has become notably awkward, leading to concerns it could impact what has up to now been a decent beginning to the campaign.
Chelsea's sporting position is strong: they are in the top four in the league, have reached the League Cup last four, and can secure a better Champions League position with strong results in their final matches.
The lingering question is whether this behind-the-scenes dynamic might begin to affect a team that was just starting to appear cohesive.
