Nearly 25,000 households in south-east Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the state, bringing wind gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, nearly one thousand households in the southern state also faced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Rescue organizations responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, primarily for building damage but also for downed trees and flooding.

Weather Forecast

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across different parts of both states.

Safety Concern

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.
